My friend just gave me this link. And my response? Possibly, but not an absolute yes. I have to admit that teachers do need assistants But it depends to what extent. We may have to look further into the situation that is happening in the classroom.
A lecturer of mine once said, "I came across teachers from a lot of countries. I make them line up according to the number of students they have in their classroom everyday. The lowest was a teacher from somewhere in the europe, and it was less than twenty. And I go to another corner where a Kenyan teacher was standing. I ask her how many students she has in her classroom and she replied, '100'. And my jaw dropped."
So my question to myself and Malaysian teachers out there, which position are we in at the moment?
Something that I received from my lecturer...

How much do teachers make? Tribute to all teachers.....
*WHAT TEACHERS MAKE*
The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued, 'What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?'
He reminded the other dinner guests what they say about teachers: 'Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.'
To stress his point he said to another guest; 'You're a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?'
Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, 'You want to know what I make? (She paused for a second, then began...)
'Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.
I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor.
I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can't make them sit for 5 without an I Pod, Game Cube or movie rental.
You want to know what I make?' (She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table.)
''I make kids wonder.
I make them question.
I make them apologize and mean it.
I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions.
I teach them to write and then I make them write.
Keyboarding isn't everything.
I make them read, read, read.
I make them show all their work in maths.
They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator.
I
make my students from other countries learn everything they need to
know in English while preserving their unique cultural identity.
I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe.
Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life.'
(Bonnie paused one last time and then continued.)
'Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn't everything; I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant...
You want to know what I make?
*I MAKE A DIFFERENCE.* What do you make Mr. CEO?'
His jaw dropped, he went silent.
THIS IS WORTH SENDING TO EVERY TEACHER YOU KNOW.
Even all your personal teachers like mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, grandparents, and your spiritual leaders/teachers

27th of March was the last day of my school visit. Teaching in English school has been much different than in Malaysia. I have experienced lots of difficulties trying to understand their culture, yet at the same time I began to like it very much. Like people said, experience is always the best teacher. The students here are very friendly, though they are very critical at times and very expressive. I'm gonna miss them a lot.
As a token of our appreciation, we did some stuff for the children. What I did was a bookmark by scanning a few of my paintings and stick them onto watercolour papers. I also did some language translation sheet just in case they want to learn Bahasa Melayu (in which I think they don't) Meanwhile, my friend worked on the colourful envelopes and pencils. We put everything together inside the envelope. It took us a whole night to do that. I also made a story book, Jentayu, which is based on one of the Malaysian legends. Well, I don't know if they could understand the story. Hopefully they do. I did that as I saw them doing the same storybook project for a few weeks.
While we were working on those stuff, we also tried to cook some Malaysian food for the kids. My friend fried some 'keropok', something like fish crackers. Meanwhile, I made some 'Begedil', one of the traditional Malaysian
kuihs made of potatoes. You can hardly find the recipe on the. internet, so I'll give one later. The funny thing about the food was that the teachers ate much more than the students! Well, I guess the students here are very much picky about food. And they can't even stand the smell of the food!We even did a little presentation on Malaysia. Talk to them a little bit about the history of Malaysia, the cities, the jungle, the spiders, races, food, flowers and the festivals. They were surprised to hear that we had so many festivals that we had so many holidays.
I'm hoping that one of the students would someday come to Malaysia and embrace its beauty. It has a lot of things that Britain does not offer. Since then I've started to love my country even more.
After the much talked story about Nurin, the Prime Minister has given the suggestion that the school hours should be extended to 4 p.m. To some of the teachers, it would be an honorable thing to do since that the job of protecting the children have been extended to the teachers -and that shows that teachers are responsible for the students. But some might think that it would be a burden since that it has been always hard for teachers to handle the students even though they have to handle one of the two sessions everyday. Imagine students being in school and study within working hours. Student's attention span may not reach to 4 o'clock. This would result to them feeling bored staying in school. And it's just impossible to do extra curricular activities in the hot sunny afternoon (and it's not even healthy). And as for Nurin's case, it happened during Pasar Malam -and that only happens later in the evening. So all in all if the thing wants to happen, it will happen.Unless if the school operates 24 hours per day -and even that wouldn't ensure the security of the students. And now the probability for the parents for blaming teachers for anything that happens to their children is higher. Wouldn't this be unfair to the teachers and even to the students?
Now it is really proven that teacher's job is not easy. We don't look at the salary raise, because we know for one thing there's always a catch to everything that we get. People always look down upon our job and feels that we deserve to do more than we're supposed to. Maybe because they are jealous that if our country is attacked, the first group that would be killed are teachers.
Hopefully something would be done to satisfy everyone.
